Overview

Why GeoStabilization International?

GeoStabilization International (GSI) is the leading design-build contractor in geohazard mitigation, delivering engineered solutions where standard construction playbooks fail. Our work protects lives and infrastructure - often under emergency conditions, compressed schedules, and complex geotechnical constraints.

Estimating at GSI is not transactional. It is strategic, analytical, and directly tied to execution outcomes. The best estimators here become trusted partners to engineering and operations - and eventually leaders who shape how we pursue, price, and deliver work across the enterprise.

The Role

The Senior Estimator at GSI is not a back-office cost compiler. This role is a strategic operator who converts incomplete information, complex geology, and constrained schedules into disciplined, winnable cost strategies.

You will lead multiple, high-stakes estimates simultaneously - often under uncertainty - partnering closely with Engineering, Project Development, and Operations. While this role does not carry direct people management responsibility, it demands leadership, technical credibility, and the ability to elevate the estimating discipline across the organization.

This is a role for individuals with Director-level runway - those who consistently demonstrate judgment, clarity of thought, and measurable impact.

Benefits

  • Great medical, dental, and vision insurance options with additional programs available when enrolled
  • Mental health benefits
  • 401(k) plan to help save for your future including company match
  • In addition to 7 observed holidays, salaried team members have flexible paid time off
  • Paid parental leave

Responsibilities

Estimating & Commercial Leadership

  • Act as Lead Estimator on multiple concurrent pursuits, often with limited documentation and aggressive timelines.
  • Develop conceptual through IFC-level budgets, translating ambiguity into executable cost plans.
  • Perform detailed takeoffs for self-performed work and validate subcontractor scopes for completeness and risk alignment.
  • Build and present defensible, margin-aware estimates that support go/no-go decisions and win strategies.
  • Lead estimate reviews and bid strategy sessions with Engineers, PMs, Superintendents, and Executives.

Cross-Functional Influence

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for heavy civil, geotechnical, and specialty construction estimating.
  • Mentor and review work prepared by Estimators and partners - raising quality, discipline, and repeatability.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to align means & methods, constructability, and risk assumptions.
  • Present estimates and commercial strategies to internal leadership and external Owners/Architects.

Market & Bid Strategy

  • Develop pursuit strategies that balance competitiveness, risk, and profitability.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids; lead scope reconciliation and final buyout recommendations.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and owner presentations as required.
  • Continuously improve estimating processes, tools, and data quality (B2W preferred).

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressive construction estimating experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Technology.
  • Deep understanding of heavy civil construction including earthwork, concrete, shotcrete, foundations, drainage, and retaining structures.
  • Proven ability to estimate work without full documentation and still deliver accurate, disciplined budgets.
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel and estimating software (B2W strongly preferred).
  • Ability to work extended hours during critical pursuits.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree.
  • PE, CE, or CM certification.
  • Demonstrated success estimating complex heavy civil or geohazard mitigation projects.
  • Evidence of influencing outcomes beyond assigned scope.

Physical & Work Environment

  • Office-based position with routine computer and collaboration requirements.
  • Up to 10% company-sponsored travel.
  • Hybrid schedule with mandatory in-office presence in Westminster, CO (Tues/Wed/Thurs).

What We're Looking For: Top 10% Indicators

  • Demonstrates cognitive agility and structured thinking under pressure.
  • Has influenced win/loss outcomes, not just prepared estimates.
  • Shows clear trajectory toward Preconstruction Director or Operations leadership.
  • Speaks in numbers, trade-offs, and decisions, not activities.
  • Comfortable saying no to bad work - and explaining why.
