The Role

As an Estimator I, you will support the preparation, review, and communication of cost estimates for geohazard mitigation and heavy civil infrastructure projects. In this role, you’ll contribute to project pursuits by developing take-offs, analyzing drawings and specifications, and engaging with suppliers and subcontractors to gather accurate pricing. With at least two years of relevant experience, you are expected to handle most estimating tasks independently while partnering with senior estimators and project teams as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed estimates and quantity take-offs for assigned trades or scopes
  • Independently review drawings and project specifications to determine materials and labor needs
  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotes for completeness and accuracy
  • Attend pre-bid site visits to understand project conditions and constraints
  • Develop pricing for self-performed work, such as shotcrete, soil nails, grouting, and drainage
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other team members to validate estimates
  • Ensure estimates are submitted on time and in alignment with bid requirements
  • Support project handoff meetings and provide estimating details to execution teams
  • Assist with conceptual budgeting as needed for early-stage projects
  • Maintain historical data and contribute to continuous improvement in estimating practices

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 2+ years of heavy civil or geotechnical construction estimating experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, Construction Management, or similar degree.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of various heavy civil construction types, including earthwork, formwork, reinforced concrete, shotcrete, drainage, foundations, and retaining structures.
  • Knowledge of construction management, architecture, or engineering.
  • Understanding of different trades required to estimate and construct heavy civil infrastructure.
  • Ability to make presentations.
  • Ability to work additional hours as necessary to meet business objectives.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office & Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with design-build projects
  • Experience with geotechnical construction
  • PE, EIT, or CM certification a plus
  • Experience with estimating software (B2W preferred)

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, and use hands and fingers to operate computers, telephones, printers and keyboards.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be able to use vision to read documents and use computer screens.
  • Work is typically conducted in a standard office environment with moderate noise levels due to office activities and interactions.
  • Up to 10% company-sponsored travel within North America.

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule. Employees will be expected to work in the Westminster, CO office 3 days per week on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

 

The expected base pay range for this position in the Denver area is $70,000.00 - $90,000.00. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential bonus or benefits.
