Overview

Who is GeoStabilization International (GSI)

GeoStabilization International (GSI) is the industry leader in geotechnical engineering and construction, specializing in emergency landslide repair, slope stabilization, rockfall mitigation, and critical infrastructure resilience. Our mission is simple: protect communities and infrastructure through innovation, speed, and technical excellence. We are growing rapidly and seeking engineering interns who want more than a summer job; this program is designed to develop future leaders who can progress into full-time engineering roles at GSI.

The Opportunity

The Estimating Intern position offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in the heavy civil and geotechnical field. Interns will work closely with the estimating team, applying their academic knowledge to real-world projects while assisting in the preparation of estimates for various construction disciplines. This role is designed to provide valuable training and exposure to industry practices, preparing interns for future careers in engineering or construction management.

This is not a shadowing internship...you will be expected to take ownership of a capstone project, develop solutions, and present your findings directly to company leadership at the end of the program. It’s an opportunity to gain field experience, test your skills, accelerate your growth, and showcase your potential to launch a career with GSI.

Why Join GSI?

  • Paid internship with direct mentorship from industry-leading engineers and project managers.
  • Lodging and transportation costs are provided for out-of-state interns.
  • Networking opportunities across a nationwide engineering and operations team.
  • Exposure to GSI’s fast-paced, mission-driven culture, built on innovation, extreme ownership, and teamwork.
  • End-of-program presentation to leadership, a chance to showcase your ideas and impact.
  • Clear pathway to full-time employment upon graduation for high-performing interns.
  • Fun, team-oriented environment with company events and perks throughout the summer.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in reviewing proposal specifications, drawings, and attending pre-bid meetings to help determine scope of work and required contents of estimates.
  • Assist with reviewing historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, and productivity analysis reports into unit and person-hour figures.
  • Support the estimating team by helping to prepare discipline estimates through complete takeoff of scope of work.
  • Assist in calculating material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Assist with design review options and recommend the optimal solution based on cost, engineering quality, and/or availability of materials.
  • Partner with the engineering team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between the pursuit team and project management teams.
  • Perform additional estimating assignments as directed by management.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar program at an accredited university or technical college.
  • Expected graduation of winter 2026 or summer 2027.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA, above a 3.5 GPA is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
