The Fleet Operations Manager will lead a dynamic operations support and dispatch center overseeing all field logistics coordination. This key role ensures our field crews receive immediate, effective assistance with operational issues, while also managing the movement of materials and equipment through third-party logistics (3PL) providers. The role carries full P&L responsibility for the department and includes ownership of logistics broker contracts, ensuring optimal pricing and service standards.

Responsibilities

Field Operations Support

  • Lead a high-performing support team dedicated to assisting frontline crews with real-time operational issues.
  • Hire, train, and manage support agents, ensuring coverage, responsiveness, and adherence to SOPs.
  • Develop internal knowledge bases, escalation paths, and workflow protocols.
  • Ensure prompt resolution of field technician calls related to:
    • Equipment troubleshooting and malfunctions
    • Truck breakdowns, repair coordination, and rental needs
    • Urgent material and supply sourcing
  • Provide crews with timely updates on equipment repair progress, mechanics’ status, and estimated resolution timelines.
  • Proactively locate and deploy replacement trucks and equipment when assets are down for maintenance.
  • Hire, train, and manage support agents, ensuring coverage, responsiveness, and adherence to SOPs.
  • Develop internal knowledge bases, escalation paths, and workflow protocols.

 

Logistics & Transportation Management

  • Direct all logistics operations for transporting materials, tools, and equipment to job sites across regions.
  • Utilize and manage third-party logistics brokers, including:
    • Negotiating and maintaining contracts, securing best-in-class pricing and service terms
    • Monitoring broker performance on cost, timeliness, and reliability
  • Collaborate with field operations, procurement, and warehouse teams to synchronize deliveries with project timelines.
  • Ensure all transportation activities meet safety, environmental, and regulatory standards (including DOT compliance).

 

Process Optimization & Financial Accountability

  • Own and manage the P&L for the department, ensuring cost-effectiveness, budget adherence, and margin performance.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency in both support and logistics workflows.
  • Track key operational and financial metrics, presenting performance insights to leadership via dashboards and reports.
  • Establish benchmarks and continuous improvement targets for cost, responsiveness, and service quality.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field (preferred)

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in:
    • Operations support, logistics, or transportation coordination
    • Team leadership in call center or field support environments
    • Budget management and/or departmental P&L oversight (preferred)

Skills

  • Expertise in transportation logistics and 3PL vendor coordination
  • Strong negotiation skills for contract and pricing management
  • Effective communicator with leadership, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficient in software such as ticketing/dispatch platforms
