The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the performance of 3-5 General Superintendents, ensuring operational excellence across all projects. This position drives safety, quality, efficiency, and workforce development while maintaining alignment with company goals and client expectations. The Operations Manager must be a strong leader with strategic vision, problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication skills.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Leadership & Team Management: Provide guidance and oversight to General Superintendents and Superintendents, ensuring alignment with company objectives and project success. Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
2. Safety & Compliance: Uphold and enforce strict safety standards, ensuring all teams comply with company policies and regulatory requirements. Lead incident prevention strategies and safety training initiatives.
3. Operational Efficiency: Streamline processes and implement best practices to maximize crew utilization, productivity, and resource management across multiple projects. Identify and execute efficiency improvements.
4. Quality Assurance: Ensure consistent adherence to quality standards and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Conduct project site visits to assess workmanship and address quality concerns proactively. Participate in estimating process.
5. Training & Development: Oversee professional development initiatives for General Superintendents and their teams. Ensure all employees have training development plans, mentorship opportunities, and career progression support.
6. Project Planning & Execution: Collaborate with project teams to ensure accurate forecasting, staffing, scheduling, and resource allocation. Monitor project milestones and adjust strategies as needed.
7. Budget & Cost Control: Maintain financial oversight of operational expenses, ensuring cost efficiency in workforce management, equipment usage, and materials. Support financial planning and forecasting efforts.
8. Communication & Coordination: Serve as a liaison between field operations, senior leadership, and supporting departments. Provide clear, consistent updates on project status, challenges, and strategic initiatives.
9. Technology & Process Improvement: Champion the use of company technology and data-driven decision-making. Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational effectiveness.
10. Client & Stakeholder Relations: Foster strong relationships with clients, vendors, and internal stakeholders to support project success, customer satisfaction, and long-term partnerships.
Other Duties:
· Assist with recruitment and interviewing of staff.
· Assist with physical site operations and physical training, as needed.
· Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Strong understanding of HR functions, employment law and best practices.
· Preferred - Proficiency with B2W, Smartsheet, Box and Microsoft Office.
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
· Proven ability to effectively communicate with engineers and clients as needed.
· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
· Detail-oriented and organized, with strong time management skills.
· Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations.
· Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical specifications.
· Must have working knowledge of most field equipment and tools.
Education and Experience:
Physical and Environmental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, reach, and use hands and fingers to operate computers, telephones, printers and keyboards.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be able to use vision to read documents and use computer screens.
Must be able to lift at least 75 pounds occasionally.
Work is conducted in both:
· a standard office environment with moderate noise levels due to office activities and interactions.
· A characteristic construction site: outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions with moderate to high noise, where hearing protection is often required.
Must be able to travel up frequently.
