Overview

As a Buyer Planner working for GSI, you will be a key player in supporting the organization in a fast-paced and dynamic geotechnical environment. This role will focus on evaluating schedules and project backlog, to confirm project requirements for future and existing orders. The Buyer Planner is ultimately responsible for ensuring project requirements arrive on site per planned schedule. The primary activities will include, but are not limited to, placing purchase orders, scheduling material deliveries, expediting or pushing out orders, and ensuring all required materials arrive on site, on time, and on budget. This role will interact with internal stakeholders, to understand business needs and effectively communicate and forecast those needs to the supply base.

Responsibilities

Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited, to the following   

  • Review job schedule and confirm project requirements in support of timely and cost-effective operational execution.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to confirm availability, issue purchase orders, deliver materials or services to job sites, forecast requirements, and resolve invoice issues.
  • Reduce crew downtime and maximize crew productivity by ensuring all project requirements arrive on site JIT.
  • Execute defined category sourcing strategies.  If category sourcing strategy cannot be followed, negotiate pricing and delivery with suppliers to maximize cost savings and ensure uninterrupted flow of project requirements through effective supply base management.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders (Project Managers, Operations Directors, General Superintendents, Supers, Warehouse, Equipment Dept) to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and support operations.
  • Maximize vendor relationships for improved service and job execution.
  • Obtain quotations for current or potential projects as needed.
  • Play a key role in developing, maintaining, and improving purchasing standard work; work with all business units to ensure company-wide strategy implementation and compliance.

  • Familiarity with lean approaches to problem solving, root cause analysis, process development, and standard work.
  • Comfortable with building process from the ground up and dynamically adjusting for improvements based on problem solving. 
  • Prior experience managing logistics, fleet, rental equipment, and/or capex purchasing is a benefit. 

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business, Logistics/Supply Chain, or a directly related field preferred or 4+ years relevant experience
  • 1+ years’ experience in a procurement function
  • Experienced Microsoft Office user with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analytics.
  • Familiarity with Lean Principles, Max/Min Inventory, Supplier Scheduling and Planning
  • Experience in Viewpoint is beneficial
  • Prior experience in construction industry is beneficial.

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in Viewpoint is beneficial.

 

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000

 

Travel: 10%
