What You Will Do

As a Rockfall Remediation Technician working for GSI, there is no typical day and the scenery changes often. You will be working outside, with your hands in a wide variety of climates. Projects include rock scaling, installing rock anchors, drilling, using airbags, installing fence meshing and more. Lots of rope work! This is hard work. This is gritty work. But this is some of the best and most rewarding work you will ever do because you will have a hand in saving people’s lives. How You Will Make a Difference

  • Verbal communication with Rockfall Superintendent and other crew members to clarify daily jobsite duties and to ensure safety on the jobsite.
  • Complying with GSI Health and Safety standards and policies.
  • Physically installing the geohazard mitigation products as outlined in the jobsite drawings and communicated by the Rockfall Superintendent.
  • Processes/Projects include rock scaling, installing rock anchors, use of air bags, installing mesh fencing
  • Maintaining and repairing any equipment used.
  • Quality control of the installed geohazard mitigation product.
  • Ability to change drill steel.
  • Ability to use rope access techniques to safely work from heights of all ranges.
  • Ability to drill utilizing a plugger.
  • Ability to independently prep for shotcrete.
  • Knowledge of the technique and physical ability to pull shotcrete hose.
  • Knowledge enabling the ability to prep for drilling - build bar.
  • Ability to shoot shotcrete per ACI standards.
  • Knowledge of and ability to troubleshoot grout pump, shotcrete pump.
  • Ability to operate drilling equipment such as a wagon drill on a vertical slope face.
  • Ability to perform production drilling.
  • Knowledge and ability to perform proper scaling techniques and airbags.
  • Understand and know mesh installation (draped pinned TECCO).
  • Ability to safely operate a slusher.
  • Ability to safely operate a boulder buster/autostem.
  • Ability to carry heavy material up and down a vertical slope using rope access.


What You Need to Bring

  • SPRAT or IRATA certification highly desired
  • Previous rockfall mitigation experience desired
  • Ability to work at heights required.
  • The ability to travel at least 3 weeks out of every month
  • Prior mountaineering, rope training or rappelling experience will move you to the front of the line.
  • CDL or ability to obtain CDL preferred.
